Empowering Art and Advocacy: A Conversation with K-Syran

In this episode of Profiles In Music, join us as we delve into the multifaceted world of K-Syran, also known as Katrina Syran. From her soaring success as a singer-songwriter to her impactful activism for women's rights, K-Syran's journey is as inspiring as it is diverse.

A true Renaissance woman, K-Syran has left an indelible mark on various artistic mediums, including music, acting, directing, and writing. Her single 'Intimacy' earned the prestigious nomination by the United Nations in the U.K. as the anthem for International Women’s Day, a testament to her dedication to advancing gender equality through her art.

But K-Syran's activism extends far beyond the realm of music. She co-wrote the play 'Breaking The Silence' for Human Rights Watch, garnering recognition at significant events hosted by luminaries such as Angelina Jolie. Her passion for human rights intersects with her love for Norwegian literature, particularly the works of Henrik Ibsen, as she brings his characters to life on stage and screen.

In 2023, K-Syran took her creative vision to new heights with the self-produced movie 'ELLIDA,' based on Ibsen's 'The Lady From The Sea,' where she shines in the lead role. Distributed by Porter+Craig and available on Amazon Prime, the film showcases her talent as both an actress and a filmmaker.

Beyond her artistic endeavors, K-Syran is a staunch supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, performing at numerous GayPride festivals and even opening GayPride Ibiza last summer. Moreover, her entrepreneurial spirit drives her to empower fellow musicians through HydraSound, a platform she co-founded to give artists control over their careers and foster true independence in the music industry.

Join us as we uncover the intersection of art, advocacy, and entrepreneurship with the remarkable K-Syran, whose passion and creativity continue to inspire and uplift audiences worldwide.
